Position Summary:
Incumbent is responsible for establishing and overseeing policies, procedures, standards and objectives for medical records services, monitoring compliance, assuring that records are consistent with policy for compliance and accuracy, and overseeing the provision of medical information to individuals with proper authorization. The incumbent develops and implements procedures to respond to appropriate requests for information and subpoenas, and coordinates projects involving utilization of medical records. Additionally, this role manages and oversees all operational aspects of the department through subordinate supervisors/leads, and has overall responsibility for customer service, training, work performance, resolution of operational and personnel issues, evaluations, hiring, and corrective action.
Required Qualifications:
Ability to compile, interpret and evaluate statistical and medical data
Ability to maintain a work pace appropriate to the workload
Ability to proactively prioritize needs and effectively manage resources
Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
Demonstrates proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and others as required
Demonstrates strong leadership skills including: guiding individuals and groups toward desired outcomes, setting high performance standards and delivering leading quality services
Demonstrates strong project management skills including: assessing work activities and allocating resources appropriately
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
Familiarity with regulatory requirements relative to the release of medical information (e.g. scanning and indexing)
Must demonstrate customer service skills appropriate to the job
Must possess the skill, knowledge and ability essential to the successful performance of assigned duties
Prior supervisory experience, as well as experience working with enterprise scanning and document management
Strong work knowledge of relevant document management Applications/Systems
Strong working knowledge of Joint Commission and Title XXII guidelines for Health Information Management and HIPPA standards
Preferred Qualifications:
Demonstrated supervisory experience, in an Health Information Management environment
RHIT or RHIA certification (or in process/nearing completion) is highly desirable;
Training in Total Quality Management or Lean Six Sigma
