Position Summary: 

The incumbent will provide daily oversight and coordination for their Utilization Management team. Provides leadership oversight of Utilization Management activities. Establishes and maintains efficient methods of ensuring the medical necessity and appropriateness of all hospital admissions. Specific duties include managing Human Resources functions; directing work activities; implementing work place changes; monitoring unit budgets; and participating on performance improvement projects. Serves as a role model and clinical resource to colleagues, staff, patients and others. Will coordinate the appropriate utilization review functions throughout the system utilizing approved criteria. Concurrently: 1.) intervenes to enhance patient quality outcomes where appropriate, 2.) Ensure clinical information in the medical record is clear and complete reflecting the patient's true severity of illness, 3.) Will work with physicians to improve the overall quality of the clinical documentation.


Salary Range: 


Rate    Minimum  $92,600.00    Maximum  $166,700.00


Required Qualifications:

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships across the Health System  
  • Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects and maintain a work pace appropriate to the workload  
  • Computer literacy and proficiency  
  • Demonstrated experience and ability to build effective working relationships and to represent the department effectively in order to accomplish goals  
  • Demonstrated leadership skills/experience  
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English  
  • Experience with and understanding of Utilization Review criteria
  • Familiarity of Joint Commission, CMS, CDPH and CCS requirements  
  • Minimum 5 years of clinical experience as a RN  
  • Must demonstrate customer service skills appropriate to the job  
  • Must possess complete understanding of acuity levels for specific patient population  
  • Must possess the skill, knowledge, and ability essential to the successful performance of assigned duties  
  • Registered Nurse  

Preferred Qualifications:

  • BSN Required and/or Master's degree  Preferred
  • Bilingual skills 
  • Case Management Certification or obtain within 18 months
  • Knowledge of University policies and procedures
