Position Summary: 

This position reports to the CEO and is responsible for day-to-day operations of a 444 licensed bed acute care academic medical center.  The COO is directly responsible for all non-nursing clinical activity, both inpatient and outpatient, including the free standing NCI designated cancer center and the comprehensive digestive disease center.  The COO will also oversee most hospital administrative functions including: General and Ancillary Support Services. Facilities Management. Design and Construction. and Special Projects including re-engineering/productivity analysis projects.  The COO will represent the medical center in the community in a variety of settings to include: the Hospital Association of Southern California (HASC), Proposition 10 Commission, Orange County Mental Health Coalition, and County MSI contract negotiations.  Reporting directly to the Chief Operating Officer are: Chief Patient Care Services Officer (CPCSO)/CNO. Chief Ambulatory Care Officer (CACO). Senior Director, Ancillary Services. Senior Director, General Services. Senior Director, Planning and Facilities. Director, Special Projects. and an executive assistant.

Experienced in "implementing the vision" of a large and growing organization dedicated to patient care, education and research

Must be observant, detailed and demanding with a dedication to quality and accomplishment

Must be well spoken, articulate, energized and highly operationally focused and engaged

Possess a Master's Degree in Health Care Administration, Business Administration or a related field

Possess a savvy understanding of healthcare and be able to anticipate how trends and other influences such as national healthcare policies may impact the delivery of healthcare within an academic medical center setting

Possess an action-oriented leadership style with assertiveness, tact and a strong set of collaborative skills

Possess outstanding interpersonal skills, an open and accessible management style, and a strong work ethic. Sets and maintains high standards for performance for self and others in the organization

Possess solid analytical skills and be comfortable tactfully challenging the status quo.  Will be transparent regarding the rationale for decisions and communicate openly and effectively across the organization

Ten or more years of progressive senior level health care administrative experience preferably within an academic medical center or a large and complex teaching hospital resulting in a broad based knowledge of hospital operations in a complex environment

Thrives on adapting to a rapidly evolving organization. Sets clear expectations for performance and holds subordinates accountable for timely results

Will be a team player who thrives on solving problems

Will be comfortable and effective working closely with a faculty practice organization along with faculty leadership and a Council of Clinical Chairs
