Position Summary: 

The Pharmacy Education Specialist is responsible for development of all medication education programs. The Pharmacy Education Specialist provides leadership in departmental strategic planning and design of educational activities, supports integration of research into practice, and assists learners to identify their learning needs. This position functions as a recognized expert, providing authoritative professional guidance to staff. The incumbent will serve as a role model and be responsible for coordination of the overall educational activities of the pharmacy department. This includes coordination of student programming, oversight of pharmacy staff orientation, competencies, continuing education, and support of the Pharmacy Residency Program.  The incumbent actively supports pharmacy clinical programs and medication safety.  The incumbent will work in collaboration with the Pharmacy Clinical Coordinator, IV Pump Management pharmacist, Hospital Safety Director, and Nurse Educators. Incumbents will lecture two times per year to other medical professionals and be published at least one time every three years in a medical journal. May be a co-principal investigator on patient clinical research, or an investigator on Pharmacy practice research.

 

Salary Range: 

 

Rate    Minimum  $106,800.00    Maximum  $192,500.00

 

Required Qualifications:

Ability to maintain a work pace appropriate to the workload

Current BLS or ACLS certification

Demonstrated analytical experience working with clinical data

Demonstrated record of pharmacy system implementation

Excellence in communications and organizational skills

Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English

Experience working in a large, complex healthcare provider organization

Licensed Pharmacist by the California State Board of Pharmacy

Minimum 6 year’s experience as a pharmacist, 4 of which must be as a clinical pharmacist in the inpatient setting

Must complete an American Society of Health System Pharmacists (ASHP) accredited residency or have 8 years of clinical pharmacy experience

Must demonstrate customer service skills appropriate to the job

Must have broad hospital therapeutics and clinical experience

Must possess the skill, knowledge and ability essential to the successful performance of assigned duties

Possess the personal characteristics of professionalism, credibility, commitment to high standards, innovation and decision-making skills

 

Preferred Qualifications:

Board certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist

Leadership experience in either a committee or work team

Lean Six Sigma Training

Management, quality, medication safety and resource utilization experience

State of National Recognition of expertise in field as evidenced by invited lectures, CE activities, consultantships, etc.

Sustained publication of peer reviewed articles or significant contributor to textbooks or equivalent
