Position Summary: 

Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer of Health Affairs, the Controller plans organizes and directs the accounting activities of the Medical Center . Directly manages, coordinates, controls and supervises the staff in the functional areas of general accounting, financial reporting, grant accounting, asset accounting, payroll and accounts payable in accordance with UC Irvine and Systemwide policies and procedures and in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles and hospital financial reporting requirements. Participates in the development and implementation of long term financial strategies. Implements and maintains security procedures for all financial information across the HealthSystem. Shares responsibility for leading the HealthSystem's achievement of its established goals. Ensures the integration of information with the School of Medicine. Collaborates with Office of the President by serving on systemwide committees and work teams to develop and implement systemwide policies and procedures as necessary. Responsible for the development, implementation and maintenance of the accounting systems in order to control the organization's assets and provide complete and accurate financial information/records. Prepares reports for use by top management to appraise operating results in terms of costs, budgets, trends, etc. Assists the CFO in overseeing the financial functions of the Health System.


Required Qualifications:

Ability to maintain a work pace appropriate to the workload

CPA required; 10 years of experience in a high level role in a comparable organization

Demonstrated ability to interact effectively, build trust and establish effective working relationships across the Health System and with a wide variety of audiences

Demonstrated ability to lead change and accomplish results, effectively integrating functions with business plans

Evidence of sound critical thinking skills and the ability to think creatively and strategically to problem solve

Excellent strategic planning skills to develop long and short range goals and objectives and the ability to lead organizational
change toward strategic business plans and accomplish results

Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English

Full understanding of and ability to effectively respond to elements that drive competitive advantage under dynamic
conditions such as health care industry changes, competitor actions, legal/regulatory changes and technological trends

Must demonstrate customer service skills appropriate to the job

Must possess the skill, knowledge and ability essential to the successful performance of assigned duties

Strong planning, financial and analytical skills to effectively evaluate and lead projects of major impact to the organization


Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in an academic medical center environment
