Position Summary: 

Reports to the Chief Health Sciences Counsel and is responsible for the development and implementation of the UCIMC Risk and Regulatory Management programs. Advises senior leadership on policies and practices regarding risk and regulatory management issues and ensures consistent practice of policies throughout the medical center. Functions as legal affairs liaison relative to compliance with applicable medical/ethical statutes. Directs the accreditation process for the organization and formalizes responsibilities for all regulatory compliance.  Is responsible for the licensure of the medical center and affiliated patient care sites.   Essential functions listed below are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all duties that may be assigned to this position, additional duties may be assigned if such duties reasonably relate to the position.


Required Qualifications:

Ability to apply sound judgment in ambiguous situations and effectively manage change

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships across the HealthSystem

Ability to maintain a work pace appropriate to the workload

Ability to persuade or influence people to take appropriate action

Ability to read and correctly interpret complex regulations, contracts and policies

Bachelor's degree

Certification in an approved risk management program

Demonstrated ability to lead change and effectively manage conflict

Excellent analytical and problem solving skills and the ability to plan strategically

Excellent organization and project management skills

Financial management and analysis skills consistent with budgetary responsibilities

Health Care Law background/experience

Interpersonal facilitation and communication skills to interact effectively and professionally with diverse audience

Minimum 3 years director level experience in a medium to large size health care facility

Minimum 3-5 years’ experience in managing lines of insurance and coverage

Minimum 5 years litigation claims management experience

Must demonstrate customer service skills appropriate to the job

Strong experience and knowledge of CMS, The Joint Commission, Title 22 and other regulatory/compliance requirements


Preferred Qualifications:

Knowledge of University and medical center organizations, policies, procedures and forms

RN or JD
