Position Summary: 

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the incumbent is responsible for the strategic planning and tactical coordination for the provision of health care to low-income populations served by UCI Medical Center. Incumbent will be responsible for researching, collecting, collating and analyzing internal and external data sources relative to the provision of indigent care in Orange County and to use this data as the basis for developing recommendations to the leadership of UCI‘s  clinical enterprise relative to its indigent care programs.  Incumbent will assist in the development of a consensus among key stakeholders within the hospital and School of Medicine and coordinate communication within the organization.  Incumbent will also be expected to play a leadership role within the broader healthcare community to stimulate improvements in the delivery system for indigents throughout the community.  The incumbent represents UCI Medical Center to agencies and entities in Orange County which fund or direct government funded healthcare and supplemental funding, monitors the activities of these organizations and develops key UCI Medical Center policies to respond to changing healthcare environment in Orange County. The incumbent will become actively engaged with community based organizations, patient advocacy groups, foundations, and other healthcare organizations that have an important stake in the provision of indigent care.   The incumbent will have indirect oversight of activities within the UCI Medical Center Governmental Relations Office related to government funded healthcare programs.


Required Qualifications:

Ability to build, attract and develop a superior management team by demonstrating and setting high standards of behavior, performance, quality, credibility and integrity

Demonstrated ability to interact effectively, build trust and establish effective working relationships across the Health System and with a wide variety of audiences

Demonstrated ability to lead change and accomplish results, effectively integrating functions with business plans

Demonstrated excellent customer service and communication skills

Evidence of sound critical thinking skills and the ability to think creatively and strategically to problem solve

Excellent strategic planning skills to develop long and short range goals and objectives and the ability to lead organizational change toward strategic business plans and accomplish results

Five or more years experience in managing operations at a senior level in a large, complex organization with related accomplishments in organizational development, productivity improvement, cost management, and performance improvement

Full understanding of and ability to effectively respond to elements that drive competitive advantage under dynamic conditions such as health care industry changes, competitor actions, legal/regulatory changes and technological trends

In depth knowledge of health care in Orange County & the ability to establish effective relationships with community and healthcare leaders

Minimum of 5 years of experience as a senior healthcare administrator

Strong planning, financial and analytical skills to effectively evaluate and lead projects of major impact to the organization


Preferred Qualifications:

Master's in Healthcare Administration or related degree
